After a long day of screenings, panels, and Pearl Street crowds, few things sound better than sinking into warm water. Luckily, Boulder sits within reasonable striking distance of several beloved Colorado soaking spots — perfect for a restorative half-day or full-day escape during the festival.
Eldorado Artesian Springs (Eldorado Canyon)
Eldorado Artesian Springs is the closest warm-water option to Boulder — sitting just a few miles southwest of town. The facility draws from a natural artesian spring and has historically offered a swimming pool open to the public during warmer months. However, the outdoor pool typically closes for the winter season, which means it is generally not accessible during a late-January festival visit. Worth a quick check on their website closer to your trip, but don't count on it as your primary option in winter.
Idaho Springs & Indian Hot Springs
About an hour's drive west on I-70, Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs has been a Colorado soaking institution for well over a century. The resort offers indoor mineral pools and private vapor caves year-round — making it a realistic and reliable winter escape. The drive climbs toward the mountains, so watch weather forecasts and check CDOT road conditions before heading out.
Steamboat Springs
For a more ambitious day trip — or an overnight — Strawberry Park Hot Springs near Steamboat Springs is one of Colorado's most celebrated natural soaking experiences. Expect a drive of roughly three to three-and-a-half hours or more from Boulder depending on conditions. The springs are open year-round, and soaking under the stars in snow season is genuinely magical. The road to Strawberry Park can require four-wheel drive or chains in winter, so plan accordingly.
Glenwood Springs
About three hours west on I-70, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort operates the world's largest hot springs pool and is open year-round. It's a well-established, family-friendly destination with consistent hours and amenities. A solid choice if you want a reliable, easy-to-plan outing.
