Getting to Boulder from Denver Airport (DEN) for Sundance
Published July 2026 · Updated September 2026
Boulder is about a 45-minute drive (roughly 44 miles by road) northwest of Denver International Airport (DEN). There's no commercial airport in Boulder itself, so nearly everyone flying in for Sundance 2027 arrives at DEN and continues by bus, car, or rideshare. Here's how each option works.
By public transit (RTD)
From the airport, Denver's RTD runs direct AB (Airport–Boulder) buses (routes AB1 and AB2) between DEN and Boulder — the budget-friendly option, though slower than driving. Separately, RTD's Flatiron Flyer bus runs between Denver Union Station and Boulder along US-36 (handy if you're coming from downtown Denver rather than the airport). Routes, fares, and schedules can change, so confirm the current details at rtd-denver.com before you travel.
By car
Renting a car at DEN and driving up US-36 (the Denver–Boulder Turnpike) is the most direct route — about 45 minutes outside of rush hour. Downtown Boulder parking is limited during big events, so plan where you'll leave the car (see getting around Boulder).
By rideshare or taxi
Uber and Lyft operate at DEN and throughout Boulder. Expect a fare in line with a ~44-mile trip, with surge pricing likely during peak festival arrival times. A scheduled or shared ride can soften the cost.
Which airport should I fly into?
Denver International (DEN) is the practical choice — it's the closest major airport and has the most flights. Boulder's own airport handles only small general-aviation traffic, with no commercial service.
