Sundance Boulder Venues: CU Campus vs. Downtown (and How Far Apart They Really Are)

The announced Sundance Boulder venues fall into two distinct clusters: one centered on the CU Boulder campus (including Macky Auditorium and Muenzinger Auditorium) and one near downtown's Pearl Street corridor (including the Boulder Theater and the Dairy Arts Center). The two clusters sit roughly a mile apart—about a 15-to-20-minute walk depending on your pace and the weather. If you're planning a packed screening schedule, understanding this split is the single most useful piece of geography you can know.
The CU Boulder Campus Cluster
The on-campus venues anchor the festival's relationship with the university and tend to be larger, purpose-built performance and lecture halls.
- Macky Auditorium — A landmark concert hall seating roughly 2,000, making it one of the festival's largest screening spaces.
- Muenzinger Auditorium — A smaller, more intimate hall on the west side of campus, well suited to Q&As and specialty programming.
Getting around on campus: Macky and Muenzinger are both on the CU Boulder main campus but are not immediately adjacent. Walking between them takes about 10-15 minutes. The campus is largely pedestrian-friendly, though it is hilly in places.

The Downtown / Pearl Street Cluster
The downtown venues are clustered near the Pearl Street Mall, Boulder's walkable open-air shopping and dining district—which also makes this cluster the easier one for grabbing a meal between films.
- Boulder Theater — A historic 1906 venue on 14th Street with a distinctive marquee and about 1,000-seat capacity across its main floor and balcony.
- The Dairy Arts Center — A beloved multi-disciplinary arts hub on 15th Street with several screening rooms of varying sizes, ideal for independent and short-film programs.
Getting around downtown: The Boulder Theater and the Dairy Arts Center are only a few blocks apart—a 5-to-10-minute walk. Pearl Street itself is closed to cars, so foot traffic flows easily.
Can You Make Back-to-Back Screenings Across Clusters?
This is the practical question every badge-holder asks. The honest answer: it depends on your buffer time.
- With a 30-minute or more gap between screenings, a brisk walk (about a mile) or a quick bike ride is very doable.
- With less than 20 minutes, you're relying on a shuttle running on schedule or a ride-share with no surge pricing—neither is guaranteed during peak festival hours.

The safest strategy: when scheduling films across clusters, look for a gap of at least 45 minutes to account for post-screening crowds, Q&A overruns, and the walk itself.
